Family pub party

My cousin Shannon came into town this week, after returning home from her final Army tour in Iraq. It's been years since the family out here got a chance to see her, so we had a little gathering at one of our favorite pubs, the Celtic Bayou. Great to see Shannon & have a chance to visit.

Congrats to Robbie on a new Daughter

If you know Robbie or would like to see the new baby head on over to his blog.

Back from DC

Arrived back from DC yesterday afternoon. It was a very nice trip.

A special thanks goes to Forbes for giving us a place to crash as well as being our main form of transportation. We were able to spend time with Kyra, Jaime, Ryan, and Turner. Everyone it appears is doing very well.

Some of the highlights of the trip include a tour of the Capital (thanks Jaime), a brewery stop at Capital City, tap dancing at the Kenedy center,

and a excellent dinner from Kyra.

The historical highlights were amazing. We were able to walk through the Holocaust Museum and the best word Eliza and I found to describe it was overwhelming. I highly recommend it but it is very difficult to take at times. We also spent time in the museum of Natural History,

American History, and the Arlington House. The Arlington House was especially interesting. We lucked out and found the house open when we were touring the Arlington Cemetery. The Arlington house is the house Robert E Lee's family owned before the Civil War. It is very well persevered in both furniture condition. The house is dedicated to his live before the war and a separate museum on the property is dedicated to his life after the war.

Here is view from the front porch of the Arlington house.

While at the cemetry we were able to witness the changing of the guard and the wreath changing ceremony.

Of course we toured many of the monuments but didn't make it to them all. If anyone hasn't been to DC you can spend an entire week there and still not see all the history you want to.

Quiet Sunday evening

Evening greetings from Calvin (AKA Batman). It's been a busy weekend & I always like to end it at home. It throws my whole week off when I can't spend Sunday evening at home relaxing. I will soon be enjoying the rest of it from my bed, as I think I am getting sick. But right now it is nice to play on the computer with Levi watching the Olympics, a warm fire, & the kitties asleep on the chair next to me. FYI--we have learned it is better to watch the Olympics on the Canadian channel, as they actually show more of the events.
This weekend was so busy I didn't even get to ride my bike in this gorgeous weather! Kicked it off by hosting the Heifer potluck at our place on Friday night (very successful, we had 19 people!), Saturday morning Levi' sister & her boyfriend came to visit & we all found deals at the REI sale, followed by the Valentine tea party, an enjoyable evening at the Jolly Roger, & today was spent helping to paint my grandparents' new apartment.
I'll be heading to bed now, as I must be healthy for our trip to DC next weekend. Supposedly all the snow from the big storm should be melted by the time we arrive.
G'night to all & hope you have a great week.

Valentine Tea Party

Saturday was the Valentine tea party with the Gowey women. While the tea party is an on-going tradition, this was the first year my generation was invited (apparently we proved ourselves at Aunt Kathy's birthday tea). Lots of yummy food & fun Valentines.

The festive Valentine table.

Some of the yummy treats.

We even had a visit from "Auntie Dave." After being told that only women were allowed at the Valentine tea party, he showed up looking like this, complete with earrings. :)

The party planner, Aunt Beth.

Goofing around under the beautiful new arbor the uncles built for Grandma last year.

Can you tell we're all cousins?

Sun and biking

It was sunny all week or so it seemed. I was able to ride into work 3 days, which is impressive since I am just starting to get into good shape. I was pretty tired Friday night from all the commuting. Also bought a new bike. It is currently in the mail. Got what I think is a really good deal off ebay. I will be sure to post pictures when it is put together.

Pitchers and catchers report Wednesday! Baseball is almost here.

A hollow feeling

The Superbowl leaves a hollow feeling this year. It was not fun to watch. Not because of the loss, but because of how the Hawks played. I have never believed officiating changes the outcome of games but it can offer significant challenges. This was a challenge that the Seahawks could not overcome. When combined with drops and poor special team plays (punting and 2 missed FG's) the Hawks could not rise to the top.

Since the Sonics are not good this year, however entertaining at times, it is time to move on to baseball.

10 days till pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training!

GO SEAHAWKS

The Great eye of Seattle will be pointing at Detroit. The big game is today. My prediction 35-27 Hawks. The key to the game is turnovers. If neither team turns the ball over advantage Hawks.

GO HAWKS!

Winds are a blowin

It is very windy here. As I am sure many of you see either out your window or on the news. I always liked wind, (as I am writing this our light fixture outside just flew off and went bouncing down the porch) but am a bit concerned about not having power or cable for the football game tomorrow. That would be just the Seahawks fans luck. Get to the Superbowl and can't watch it.

Good news ahead as it is supposed to be sunny starting tomorrow. By sunny I mean Seattle sunny in that it won't be raining. Time to start pedalling into work. I have only been riding maybe a day a week with the weather so bad. It is all you really can because cloths aren't dry the next day after a bad rain ride. Well gotta put that fixture back on the light.
