New treasures

I wanted to show off some of my newest treasures. The painting was a gift from my Uncle Steve, also the artist. His many colored abstracts have always graced the walls of my grandparents' house & my sister & I feel so lucky to now have a small collection of our own (I have two, she has three). This green painting fits in so well with the "nature theme" that we seem to have going in our living room (& house!).
The dolls are a recent & very great addition to my small native doll collection. A few years ago, my mother gave me a couple of native dolls to display at my Heifer International booth at the Festival of Hope. Last Tuesday morning presented an incredible opportunity to add to my collection. At the Musuem of History & Industry, they have received hundreds of dolls over the decades, most of them simply sitting in archives. They decided to sell all the dolls, raising money for the musuem in the process. Mom & I went to the sale at the opening & it was very interesting to see all the different dolls. These dolls were great finds--from Ecuador, Mexico, Poland--all places Heifer has projects.

Snowshoeing

Chris, Coal & I had a great snowshoeing adventure today--we hiked up a ways into the trees & enjoyed lots & lots of snow!

The trees had so much snow on them!

The cool looking snow curls that form from rolling a snowball down a hill.

Coal had a good time too.

Silly snow-girls.

Boulder River Hike

Hit the trail this weekend. It was good hike. Very wet, but worth it.

The hike included 3 waterfalls, lots of moss, and a trail that quickly became a creek. The girls finally understood what Gortex does in hiking boots. It only took Bet and I 2 years to convince them that Merrel cross trainers weren't good hiking shoes.

The river itself was very murky and moving extremely fast.

A hobit lived here.

Hearn family Christmas

New Year's Day was spent celebrating Christmas with the Hearn family in Shelton. As my grandparents moved back to Washington this fall, we had almost all the family present. Fun times...

Grandma Linda & her new scarf.

My little sister Emily with her new rug & her boyfriend of two years, Anthony.

My cousins Seth Kolloen & Meredith being especially festive.

Boo & Bet's gift of the largest, coolest candle I have ever seen. It'll look great on their hearth at home.

Lovely ladies (Boo, Moo-ma & Lili)

Patches of Hope Quilts

Here's the link for anyone who's interested in the quilts.
There's some quilts for sale on the website & it sounds like they list more every now & then. I actually got mine from an alternative gift fair here in Seattle--two fairs I went to this year had a booth for Patches of Hope & had piles of quilts to choose from.

China

When I was 12 I went to China to play in a baseball tourneyment. This was the time before birth certificates were taken too seriously and we got destroyed. However the trip is something I will never forget. We spent 10 days in Beijing and saw many amazing things. We walked the great wall, spent time in some of the walled cities, and went through Tiananmen Square. I brought back many souvenirs. Two of the more interesting souvenirs were the art masks and chopsticks. About a month ago my mother got them framed in Spokane. This guy does excellent work and I though I would share it with you all.

Sorry for the flash but the room is not well lit on that wall.

Kitties & quilt

Here's the kittens & my new quilt. :)
I bought the quilt from a non-profit organization called Patches of Hope. The quilts are made by Cambodians living with AIDS, enabling them to work for their livelihood within a society that otherwise made this impossible. Each quilt is signed by the Cambodian who made it, making it all the more special & personal.
(Kristen: the dark colored stars on the edge of the quilt are a deep red, very pretty).
